Shanghai, May 13 (Gasgoo.com) At the 2008 Beijing auto show in April, General Motors unveiled its new concept car Buick Invicta and a full line-up of three latest models using its E-Flex technology. The production version of its Chevrolet Volt based on the E-Flex system will hit the Chinese market in 2010.

The three E-Flex technology-based concept cars that debuted at the recent Beijing show are the Chevrolet Volt (Chevy Volt), Cadillac Provoq, and Opel Flextreme. The three models have realized the mix of the E-Flex fuel cell with the gas / petrol engine, hydrogen fuel engine, and diesel engine respectively, setting the trend of the E-Flex system's future development.

G Richard Wagoner Jr, the CEO of General Motors, said at the Beijing show that the production model of the Chevrolet Volt will be available in the Chinese market in 2010, the second market after the United States to sell the E-Flex Chevy Volt, but he didn't disclose whether it will sell in China as an imported car or a locally made vehicle.

The E-Flex system uses an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery to propel the vehicle. An onboard engine, which may be powered by a variety of fuel sources, generates additional electricity to replenish the battery and extend the vehicle’s driving range.

GM plans to introduce a hybrid version of the Cadillac Escalade sport SUV in China next year.
